AJU72992601 Genuine OEM LG Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve
The AJU72992601 is a Genuine OEM LG refrigerator water inlet valve assembly compatible with select LG and Kenmore refrigerators in the LFX21, LFX25, LFX28, LFXS24, LMX25, LMX28, LMXS27, and Kenmore Elite 795 series. The water inlet valve is a solenoid-operated valve located at the back of the refrigerator that controls the flow of water from your household supply line to the ice maker and water dispenser. When the refrigerator's control board signals the valve to open, water flows through to fill the ice maker tray or deliver water to the dispenser. When the valve fails, you lose ice production, water dispensing, or both — or water may leak from the valve body itself.
This is a redesigned single-valve assembly that replaces older dual-solenoid valve configurations. It includes the complete valve assembly with wiring harness. Note: the flow meter is not needed on all models — remove it if your model does not require one. It directly replaces AJU72992606, AJU73432801, 5221JA2011P, 5221JA2011J, EBD60664501, AP4671476, and several additional cross-reference numbers. Installs in 10–20 minutes with basic hand tools.

Includes complete valve assembly and wiring harness. Redesigned single valve replaces older dual-solenoid versions. Compatible with LG LFX, LMX, LMXS, and Kenmore 795 series. Replaces AJU72992606, AP4671476, EBD60664501, and more.
Common Problems This Part Fixes
Ice maker not producing ice or producing very small, misshapen cubes
Water dispenser not working — no water flows when lever or button is pressed
Water dispenser producing only a trickle instead of a steady stream
Water leaking from the back of the refrigerator near the water valve
Ice maker fills too slowly or overflows due to incorrect water flow
Humming sound from the back of the fridge when requesting water or ice — solenoid energized but valve not opening
No water reaching the refrigerator despite the household supply line being connected and pressurized

Installation Notes
⚠️ Unplug Refrigerator and Shut Off Water Before Starting Unplug the refrigerator and shut off the household water supply valve before beginning. Pull the refrigerator away from the wall to access the rear lower panel. Unscrew the panel to expose the water inlet valve. Take a photo of the wiring harness and water line connections before disconnecting anything — the AJU72992601 includes an extra black wire connector not present on some older valves, which may be a ground or sensor line; verify your wiring diagram before connecting. Turn off the water supply, disconnect the water inlet line and outlet lines from the valve, then disconnect the wiring harness. Unscrew the valve bracket from the refrigerator frame. Install the new AJU72992601 valve in the same position, reconnect the water lines and harness, and reinstall the panel. Restore the water supply and power, then test ice making and water dispensing. Note: The water tubing running to the ice maker has very little slack — trim no more than 1/2 inch from the tubing if needed, or it may not reach both connection points. Tools needed: Phillips screwdriver, adjustable wrench, work gloves.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the refrigerator water inlet valve do?
The water inlet valve is an electrically controlled solenoid valve that opens and closes on command from the refrigerator's control board. When you press the water dispenser lever or the ice maker calls for water, the control board sends voltage to the valve's solenoid coil, which opens the valve and allows household water pressure to push water through to the dispenser or ice maker. When the demand is met, the voltage stops, the solenoid releases, and a spring closes the valve. A failed valve — either stuck closed or with a burned-out solenoid coil — means no water can pass through regardless of how the dispenser is operated.
How do I know if the water inlet valve is the cause of my no-ice or no-water problem?
First confirm that your household water supply is on and the line behind the refrigerator is connected and pressurized. Then check the water filter — a clogged filter is one of the most common causes of slow or no water flow and is often mistaken for a valve failure. If the filter is less than 6 months old and water pressure is normal, test the valve's solenoid coils with a multimeter for continuity — a working coil shows continuity; an open circuit means the coil has burned out. If you hear a hum from the valve area when requesting water but nothing flows, the valve is receiving power but not opening — indicating a failed valve.
Why does this valve look different from the original dual-valve assembly?
The AJU72992601 is a redesigned single-valve assembly that replaces the older dual-solenoid configuration used in earlier LG refrigerator models. LG redesigned the valve to consolidate both solenoids into a single unit. The replacement includes a wiring harness and may include an additional connector not present on the original — this extra connector (typically a black wire) is for a flow meter or ground connection on certain models. If your model does not use a flow meter, simply remove that component from the valve before installation. Despite the difference in appearance, the AJU72992601 is a direct functional replacement.
Is the AJU72992601 compatible with Kenmore refrigerators?
Yes — Kenmore 795-series refrigerators are manufactured by LG and use the same components. The AJU72992601 water inlet valve is compatible with select Kenmore and Kenmore Elite 795-series models. Always verify your specific Kenmore model number before ordering to confirm compatibility.
Is this an OEM or aftermarket part?
This is a Genuine OEM part manufactured by LG to factory specifications. It is the exact same water inlet valve assembly installed in compatible LG and Kenmore refrigerators from the factory — guaranteed fit, materials, and performance.
